Dièze is the solo project of Diego Leyder, guitarist of the bands BRNS, Namdose and Fondry. On his new album, Équilibre, the musician continues to chart a unique path, somewhere between American minimalism and pop sensibility. Written at home according to impulse and inspiration, the solo guitar pieces that make up this album form a protean collection whose common denominators are spontaneity and restraint. This deliberate simplicity is reflected in the choices of composition, arrangements and mixing, but also in the recording process itself—most often captured in a single take, without overdubs. From a haunting lullaby to a light waltz, from a wild gallop to a western soundtrack, with occasional cosmic breaths along the way, these eleven tracks celebrate eclectic forms, showcasing their author’s versatility and at times recalling the music of Dustin Wong, Steve Reich or The Durutti Column. For the first time, on this new album the electric guitar is joined on certain tracks by other instruments: cellos, double basses, clarinets and vibraphones complement his vision and bring new colors without altering the minimalist spirit of the original intent.
