RELEASE DATE: 21.04.2025
We met Tony Johnson during his live show at Delta in Namur. He told us about his latest EP released on Unlimited Happiness and about the importance of live recording in his work.
WHO ARE YOU?
Tony: I make music with machines live as Tony Johnson.
I make electro, disco, house, acid, techno, Boogie Funk, all that kind of stuff. It sounds different every time because I improvise.
DESCRIBE YOU LAST RECORD?
Tony: My last Tony Johnson EP sounds robotic, very tight and a bit funky. It’s much darker than my other stuff. I’ve also used some weird synthesizer sounds.
WHAT’S THE STORY BEHIND TONY JOHNSON?
Tony: That’s a long story. My real name is Toon Janssens so Tony Johnson is actually a translation of Toon Janssens. It’s Tony Johnson. It started with Chrome brulée where we’re do make up a name for each member of the band and we thought it was funny to call it Tony Johnson.
WHY DO YOU VALUE LIVE RECORDING IN YOUR WORK?
Tony: it’s important to let go of it. Once you made the music, you can let go of it. When you do it live, when you record live at home, you can let it go. It’s just like, it is what it is. You can cut out some parts but you can’t change anything in the mix and you can not like, leave stuff out of it. It’s what it is and I love that.
