“Pit Of Impressions” released on W.E.R.F.. We spoke about the her music influences and the implication of her band in the creative process.
WHO’S HELENA CASELLA?
Helena: I’m a singer, composer, pianist and writer from Ghent/
I explore Jazz, Soul, R&B, Brazilian Rhythms mostly in my music.
DESCRIBE YOUR ALBUM IN THREE WORDS:
Helena: It’s soulful, it’s warm and it’s personal.
I feel like it’s something that very much displaced me as a person.
That’s the main purpose of the the vibe of the album which I want to give to the listeners.
WHAT’S YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS?
Helena : I usually start with, chord progressions on the piano, and I write on my own. they’re little sketches that I kind of like collage into a song. So it’s like little parts of songs that I kind of, just, create. And then, I add lyrics after that, and then I bring it to my band, So I’m usually already thinking of like how I want the groove to be what I want each instruments to be playing so it’s very directive but I love the instrument and the musicians in my band to really shine out and be able to put a bit of their own style in the music
